Hannah Howes
About Hannah Howes from Wellington
A regular on the festival front, Hannah Howes has gained recognition in her homeland and abroad for her dreamy soulful voice, adapted reggae style and philosophical lyrics in a deliciously dub-rounded setting. Labelled a ‘Wahine Toa’ and a ‘Sleepy Lioness’ Miss Howes' ten-year apprenticeship in song-writing has set her on a course of broad spectrum collaborations (including performing as Sista Mischief at many festivals with Ecophonik) resulting in a mature smoky dubbed reggae jazz sound. Hannah's third album, 'Candy', is out now- recorded at Wellington's Surgery studios with award winning engineer, Lee Prebble and some seriously hot talent, including Peter Hill (Rhombus, Woolshed Sessions), Myele Manzanza (Recloose, Olmecha Supreme), King Homeboy (National Beatbox Champion, Kamehameha Champion), Ben Wood and Maz Herman (Hikoikoi Reserve, ROY G and the BIVinators), Al Fraser (Tahu), Alan Starrett (Southern Sinfonia, Flying Nun), backing vocalists Ariana Tikao, Rio Hemopo (Trinity Roots, Breaks Co-op) and Dayna Sanerivi and multi-instrumentalists, John Egenes and Daisy Howes.
