Julian Temple Band
About Julian Temple Band from Dunedin
Critically
acclaimed singer/songwriter Julian Temple brought together the best
damn rhythm section he could find to play his tripped-up, bipolar songs.
The three-man band, based in the Deep South of New Zealand, smash
through the outer edges of most genres, giving their music an abstract
form that can't fit into any pigeon-shaped hole. Troubadour songwriting
glides through a bluesy-funky-jazzy-country-psychedellic-groovy-grunge and gets smeared together for some good times and some air time.
Temple's
stylishly simple use of electric and acoustic guitars, along with his
husky and crazily acrobatic voice, brings expressive depth and diversity
to lyrics that oscillate the vignettes of life. Rib rattling and
soulful bass lines swell effortlessly from the fingers of Scott Campbell
whose jazz and funk-inspired playing unifies the band, while on drums,
PMK's rough approach to precision provides both backbone and finishing
touch.
Julian
Temple Band makes music that is down and dirty but full of love for
sound. Spawned in early 2004, they have independently released three
albums; In Sea (2006), Quiet Earth (2009) and Balance Escapes (2010) and toured extensively through the U.S. and N.Z. Temple is currently working on a solo album titled Nowhere Fast due
for release in September 2011. A world tour is scheduled for
November/December/January to promote the album, seeing Temple play three
countries in three nights and touring extensively through California.
