Atsushi And The Moisties

About Atsushi And The Moisties from Auckland

Atsushi started New Zealand's best authentic Jamaican ska band The Moisties as a solo side project in 2003, with the intention to recreat real authentic Jamaican sound of 60s and 70s with new idea of music. Atsushi created his first solo ep in 2006, and formed Atsushi and The Moisties later that same year. The band debuted in 2007 at Auckland's annual SKA-B-Q, sharing the stage with well-known acts including The Managers and The Offbeats.

Since then The Moisties have actively appeared in public, performing at dozens of locations ranging from Auckland venues like Auckland Town Hall, Kings Arms, Khuja Lounge and Leigh Sawmill Cafe, through to Public Libraries, preschool, street parties on Franklin Rd (known as Christmas lights street) and even a Cruise Ship in Whangarei... not to mention numerous house parties and private functions throughout the North Island. They performed again at SKA-B-Q in 2008 and 2009 (Aucland and Wellington), One Drop Beats All reggae festival (Whangarei), Toots and Grooves Ska Fest (Levin) and Brewers Bar (Tauranga), San Francisco Bathhouse (Wellinbgton), Titirangi Festival in 2010, Music of a Thousand Lovers in 2010 and many more.

Past few years, the band appeared on radios and TVs. One of New Zealand national TV chanelles, TVNZ made a little documentary about Atsushi and The Moisties in 2010. Also their songs have been played on many radio stations such as bFM, Base Fm, Radio Active (Wellington), Hamilton Community Radio (Hamilton) and Radio One (Dunedin). Not only national radio stations recognised them, the band also has been on air Brazilian and Australian radio stations.

Atsushi has organised many shows/events to promote New Zealand reggae music scene. He has launched local reggae event, Auckland Reggea Night: All night of reggea music which was great successed with many local bands. His work has been extended to international in 2010. He brought DJ Mossman who is a music director of reggae film Rocksteady: the roots of reggea, from Canada to establish reggea, ska and rocksteady culture in New Zealand.

Jah TIGER is an integral part of "Atsushi & the Moisties" stage performance. A tiger is featured in the band's logo and Moisty sports a stylish tiger costume onstage. An unusual and memorable part of the live show, Jah Tiger rocks some serious bling, and can jump around and play the guitar balancing on a bar stool!

The uniqueness of the band lies not only in Jah tiger, the songs or the live performance. One item of Moisties' merchandise has taken on a life of its own. Atsushi & The Moisties panties sell out continuously, keeping the fans moisty. New merchandise includes funky girls singlets featuring the band logo and catchy phrase .. "I'm a Moisties' sweet ass bitch!" .. (If you are not kinky or cool enough, they also have their Sound of the Ska EP and standard band t-shirts for sale). In 2010 they released single, Kingsland The Great on vinyls.

Future plans include performances with a guest vocalist from the States, Jamaica, and shows in Melbourne and Sydney in 2010, Brazil and Canada in 2010. Releasing new album with analog recording..

If The Moisties like you, you may get something at the shows. So keep dancing!
