About Sambalada Funk from Wellington
Sambalada Funk, Brazilian groove in New Zealand, made of the fusion of samba and funk, style that came up on seventies. Some of the covers are from musicians such as Jorge Ben, Tim Maia, Seu Jorge, Novos Baianos and some of the songs are originals.
Elaine Abras was born in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, Big Capital, full up of musicians. Studied music and vocal techniques at Fundacao de Educacao Artistica, one of the best schools in BH. Lived in London where she developed her fusion style. She likes all kinds of music, but loves singing jazz, bossa, funk and soul. She has been in New Zealand for 7 months putting on one of the best Brazilian groove.
She has been playing with wonderful kiwi and brazilian musicians in Wellington such as Jonathan and Miles Crayford, Mostyn Cole, Vough Roberts, Tyson Smith, Myele Manzanza, Alda Rezende, Isa Rovo, Ze Leal, etc.
She is also making part of the Wellington Batucada.
Sambalada Funk has been playing at Havana, Southern Cross, Fusion Bar, St. James Theatre, Te Papa Museum for the event “Overseas Experiment” and other places in Wellington.
