Mothra
About Mothra from Auckland
Mothra is a progessive/experimental/rock band from the North Shore, Auckland New Zealand, drawing from various genres such as progressive metal, shoegazer, sludge, and post rock. The band is made up of Hugh Allan - guitars/samples, James Armstrong - percussion, and Reuben Saffer - bass.
Mothra have been working on a large body of material over the last 2 years and play frequently around Auckland. They were picked out of 54 bands as the Auckland finalist for the Win a Slot at Big Day Out comp 2010 by Groove Guide magazine.
Mothra also opened for the critically acclaimed Devin Townsend Project in March 2010, and were described by Devin himself as the best opening act he had played with all tour.
Mothra is currently an instrumental band focused on making pure, challenging music for themselves and the listener. Vocal tryouts are always welcome but this is no easy feat. Numerous vocalists have attempted to contribute, many finding this difficult due to the experimental elements of odd time and complex song structuring. These are core elements of what Mothra is about, but are never forced. Song flow and natural cohesion are just as important. Mothra will be releasing a long awaited e.p 2011 and music video in the near future. Keep up to date at www.mothraband.com
