life. What sets him apart is that he’s actually an excellent rapper.
With a control of word play and imagery that puts most local poets to
shame, Jay Roacher paints pictures of a mundane life only broken up with
downers and dole payments. His music is honest and innovative, his
live show is hype, and he wears animal hats. Aside from that he’s also a
former NZ battle champion and a member of heavy smoking rap duo Cancer
with Louie Knuxx. Following up from his 2008 self-titled debut and last month’s “Judge Me
Before You Know Me” mix-tape, Jay Roacher’s latest is a 6 track EP with
guest appearances by label mate Tourettes and vocalist Caoimhe. The
production is moody, the delivery is emotional, the catalyst is
depression, and the result is good music. With a full length album out
later in the year thru independent hip hop label Breakin Wreckwordz, In
