1814

About 1814 from Kaitia

Since their inception in 2004, northland reggae band, 1814, whose members live in the hill’s surrounding the beautiful Whangaroa Harbour, have been busy this past year cementing their name on the local and international reggae scene.

Patu describes the 1814 sound as having an up beat, funky, r’n’b, roots reggae feel to it. If you love skankin, you'll love the live shows, full of energy, up beat grooves, wicked sax and sweet soulful vocals.

Recent sold out shows here and in Australia have put the band in hot demand with offers for further travel overseas.

Debut album, Jah Rydem, recently entered the top 40 and hit number 1 on the Independent Charts, which Patu said, “was a huge surprise and a bit of a buzz for this hard working band from up north”.

The name “1814” was taken from the year the Gospel arrived at Oihi, in the Bay Of Islands. Missionary Samuel Marsden, held the first sermon there on Christmas Day, 1814. This is the inspiration behind delivering a message of peace, love and unity to all people throughout the world.

1814 are: Patu Colbert (guitar/vocals); Shaun (drums); Jimmy (bass); Darren Katene (lead vocal); Reuben Heger (sax); Erana Jones (keys), Maihi Pinker and Harmony Tepania (vocals).
