About Jos River Elk from Auckland
Originally from Christchurch, Jos has had a career in music spanning more than three decades, and covering New Zealand as well as other parts of the globe. Notable events in his career as a guitarist, bassist, and vocalist/front man could be recorded as having played and sung in bands like: Softly Wild, Siberia, Skylord, Sphinx, Sneakers, Survivors, Waterfall and Intelligent Species.
Jos has had a very colorful career. Genres include Bubblegum, Pop, Rock, Pop Rock, Punk, Blues, Rythmn`n Blues, Classical, Country, Classical Rock, Funk, Jazz, Funk Rock, Jazz Rock, Glam Rock, Choir, Heavy Metal, Rock Theatre and also "...a kind of Folk/Minstrel approach to solo performance art, as a template if you like, for a mixture of everything musical that takes my fancy at the time of rehearsals for the up-coming gigs.."
Jos plays a variety of instruments. These include: the Guitar, Bass Guitar, Drums, Percussion and Didgeridoo. He is also an accomplished vocalist. In fact, much of the music he’s written and performs is vocal based music (songs!) The rest leans a bit towards the likes of Joe Satch and Steve Vai, with a little Marcus Miller thrown in to "keep it Funky, man".
Currently Jos is spending time based in Auckland, performing and recording his original works. He is also producing recordings with his portable studio for other Auckland-based musicians. Two of his three albums are available for sale at gigs; Random Twilight, Jos River Elk 2000 and Forevermore, Jos River Elk 2006-2008. These are soon to be released online.
