The Riff Rats
About The Riff Rats from Wellington
Formed in Dunedin in early 2005 as a experimental(how original) four piece, the Quartet took on the sounds that was going on around them(noise/no wave/garage)and put a more pop slant on it.....
After an obsessive diet of Yeah yeah yeahs, The Pixies, Sonic youth, Die die die, Pj Harvey and a plethora of flying nun bands they nearly had their sound.
Mostly playing instrumentally they decided to do their own vocals by the end of 2005,
they lost their original drummer Pete Mcartney and Korg player Iso12 at this time, so picked up another drummer and played as a three piece.
They had a relatively successful 2006 supporting the likes of The Mint Chicks, The Situations, Though Creature, Actor/Model, Collapsing Cities, So so Modern, Charlie Ash Frase and Bri, Haunted Love, Onanon, Operation Rolling thunder, The Lovehaters, Rory Storm, Soul Seller, the Ddts among others.
They also played on a live to air at Radio one and Dannypalooza and made a video for Going nowhere fast which was played on Alt TV...
A b side from their first single"Burn babylon burn was playlisted at Radio Active and Going nowhere fast was added to the Radio one sampler 2006.
In November 2006 they relocated to Wellington.
They have since played several gigs and are about to record a single which will be out in time for Zombie Prom 2 on the 7 of July@Happy...
