Tom Lark

About Tom Lark from Christchurch

While most bands just worry about noise control getting called to their practice space, spare a thought for Tom Lark, whose usual creative space was demolished in the aftermath of the Christchurch earthquakes.

With all practice spaces unusable and every venue in the city shut for months, making music with his former band was no longer possible. Tom Lark was forced to retreat to the safety and musical neverland of his bedroom; where he began writing and recording his music with a zero dollar budget and a troublesome laptop.

What followed was the Tom Lark EP; a six track record rich with attitude and alt-pop hooks. Following the recent online release

he's picked up strong airplay on Christchurch’s RDU and has been featured on the website of well-known Australian magazine Frankie.

While his first single "All Night Long" combines the woozy lilt of a Sparklehorse record with a sprinkle of The Shins and some Brit-pop melodicism, it's definitely worth your time checking out the rest of his gems.

The first reviews are glowing, and US based blog "Dingus" had these very kind words on the Tom Lark EP.

“What seems to start like a punch from a younger brother, taunting, over-joyous and bold ends up taking a turn for the more serious by the latter half of the album. With good feelings and momentary satire, Tom Lark has crafted,in one light, a pure and honest record. In another light, he’s made an near absurd gesture at the entirety of our pitiful existence.”
