Date With The Knife
About Date With The Knife from Palmerston North
Date With The Knife was started in a hospital bed in Wellington in 2010 it quickly moved to the spare bedroom and then to the shed in the Friendly town of Feilding.
Intended to be a dumping ground of bad riffs, bland patterns, repetative rythms and muscial experiments. Date With The Knife was to be nothing more than a guilty solo project, selfish, unforgiving, purely created for shits and giggles....
Tracks wre recorded in a room in the back of Daniels shed. A cheap crappy guitar, a drumkit that was purchased in 1994 and 2 Microphones....DIY....Low-Fi.....cheap. Walls of noise, layered rythms, muffled drums....it sounds like what you'd expect a do it yourself solo project on a budget with cheap gear to sound like....scrappy, chaotic, not apologetic, unwilling to hide the imperfection, but that is what makes and what gives Date With The Knife its character.
Once recorded the tracks were put up on bandcamp for friends to download and laugh at for free.
December 2011 saw long time friend and band mate (from The Highfield Weekend) Jimmy Cartwright discuss with Daniel the possiblity of performing Date With The Knife live...shits and giggles.....A gig was booked and a band was formed from the Horsefight Collective
