Jonny Corker
About Jonny Corker from Auckland
Jonny Corker is an up and coming New Zealand singer/songwriter. If you blend together Elliott Smith’s lyrical style and Nick Drake’s melodic arrangements, you get an idea of the Jonny Corker sound. His music has been described as low-fi and vulnerable, and is melodic, alternative folk. His music is inspired by heartbreak, joy, conflict and contentment, and Jonny plays with a sensitivity and sincerity that is unique and refreshing. Jonny Corker has been in the New Zealand music industry for ten years. After playing with the highly successful pop/rock band Rubicon, Jonny joined Auckland band Duchess, and worked as a session musician on various projects. Jonny usually performs with his partner Julie Thompson, who helps out with backing vocals and plays the cello.
Jonny Corker's debut album was recorded mainly at Bethells Beach on the west coast of Auckland New Zealand and Jonny was helped out by a range of New Zealand musicians, including Lucid 3's Victoria Girling-Butcher and Marcus Lawson, Natasha Green, Gene Bennett and Neil Watson. Jonny is a multi-instrumentalist, and played a range of instruments on the album, including guitar, bass, cello, drums, keys and percussion. The album will be released through Blue Moon Records on 30 July 2007, and will be available from Real Groovy, The CD Store, Conch Records, amplifier.co.nz and cdbaby.com
