About Chuganaut from Hamilton

CHUGANAUT’S BIOGRAPHY

CHUGANAUT’s music is loosely based around ‘Rock’, ‘Alternative’ & ‘Twisted MetaL’ styles, with Mellow & Heavy Extremes!

CHUGANAUT has a little bit of everything: an expressive flurry of chaotic rhythms, quirky hooks and quick changes that are symbolic of singer (’Solid’) Stu’s song writing. Add a dash of NAIL-wrenching riffs, LIL-ting drumbeats, MUNRO-ic bass and heartfelt SOLID-vocals and you have the heart of CHUGANAUT. Combine this with a combustible mix of passionate spontaneity and you have the soul of CHUGANAUT.

Formed 2002, CHUGANAUT is Waikato based and combines a mixture of ‘Different people with similar tastes’ who have combined their skills and found the secret ingredient that has created the unique sound of CHUGANAUT. A highly energetic band delivering powerful performances, CHUGANAUT provide everything with good intentions in creative music that inspires people to have fun when they come to a show.

CHUGANAUT has received regular airtime on nationwide radio, has appeared live on C4TV and national TV and has had numerous articles written in magazines and newspapers (see some press articles on www.chuganaut.com).

CHUGANAUT won the Woodstock Blue Battle of the Bands competition in 2003, taking out first place for Most Outstanding Guitarist, Drummer and People’s Choice Award and also won the Bay of Plenty Regional Finals of the Battle of the Bands.

In 2004 CHUGANAUT released two singles, produced its first music video and released a single (Brightside) on the Axe Attack Metal CD Compilation Vol 1. CHUGANAUT also became the Worldwide Winners of the first ever World Battle of the Bands competition, having won the New Zealand National Finals and the Waikato and Bay of Plenty Regional Finals in the same year.

Opening the 2005 Big Day Out, a one-day musical extravaganza in Auckland, New Zealand to a crowd of thousands brought tremendous support from both old and new fans and playing major towns of New Zealand with the Axe Attack Vol 1 Nationwide Tour has shown that CHUGANAUT’s music and visually intense stage presence has a fast growing popularity.

Touring nine venues of the north island CHUGANAUT promoted its 6-track EP entitled 'Wolf', which is complemented with a video of the same name, directed by Greg Page of Fish n Clips. As a small step toward an international career CHUGANAUT played live in Brisbane and on the Gold Coast, Australia in December 2005.

As host band on 6th June 2006 CHUGANAUT was joined by 9 NZ and 5 overseas bands at “Supertop” Ericsson Stadium for the first ever NZ Metal Day Out and played 5 venues in the north island with Flatline (USA) and Frankenbok (Australia) on the ‘666’ Tour.

For several months during 2006 CHUGANAUT were back in the studio with the Datsun’s soundman, Scott Newth, recording their debut album. As a prelude they released a single (Part of This) on the 11th of November 2006, followed by a 9-venue nationwide tour.

The Unsigned TV Show in Cleveland, Ohio played CHUGANAUT’s ‘Wolf’ video on Episode 3 of the show with several radio stations in the USA playing tracks from the ‘Wolf’ EP.  The ‘Wolf’ video was also a finalist in the ‘Handle the Jandle’ competition.

CHUGANAUT’s debut album 11:11 ONE, released in August 2007, is part one of a double album, 11:11 TWO scheduled for release in 2008 with an extensive north island tour in October/November to promote the album. A south island tour is in the pipeline for 2008 along with an east coast tour of Australia.

With their energetic stage presence, willingness to take that extra bit of effort to put on a good show and taking time to talk with their audience, these four fun loving and dedicated musicians are primed and ready for the next level of their musical career with a view to progressing internationally.
