About Kimbra from Hamilton

Kimbra, is a singer/songwriter inspired by ecclectic vocal and musical influences. Kimbra has already released two singles (with funding from NZ on Air) and won Second placing in the Smokefree Rockquest 2004 along with the Best Vocals award, Womens Musicianship and gaining over $7000 in total from the competition. Her focus on rhythm and melodies sets her apart from the generic girl on guitar and captures audiences. Over the last few years Kimbra has jumped at the chance to work on her craft with gigging and touring around the country with various established bands and artists.

Kimbras' first single 'Deep For You' was recorded at the infamous York St Studios with Welsh producer Greg Haver (who has worked with Manic Street Preachers, Lost Prophets, The Checks). The current and most recent single 'Simply On My Lips', was recorded at The Lab Studios with Nic Manders (The Electric Confectionaires, Brooke Fraser) and the video clip, directed/animated by Joel Kefali (Cut Off Your Hands, The Have) which recieved extensive play and recently won 'Best Breakthrough Video at the Juice TV Awards '07.

Determined to create lyrically provoking songs with themes of unity, hope and doubt, inspired by the likes of Jeff Buckley, Amy Winehouse, Ani Difranco and Bjork, tainted by the jazz and soul influences she grew up listening to.

Each song alit with both harmony and discord, aiming to maintain structure but escape cliché. Kimbra has plans to see the world transformed by music and hopes to contribute to the revolution.
