Tyson Smith

Tyson Smith is a guitarist/vocalist currently based in Wellington. He is a graduate of the Christchurch Jazz School and has travelled extensively, soaking up influences in Cuba, Central America, Europe and the U.S.A, most notably New York City where he took lessons from some of the city's highly acclaimed guitarists including Mike Stern and John Abercrombie.

Although there are discernable influences from his travels, Tyson's music is hard to pigeon hole as any one particular style. With blues, funk, jazz, rock and world music elements, his compositions act as vehicles for the interaction and improvisation of the musicians he gathers but also exist as songs that can be performed solo with an acoustic guitar.

He is currently working towards a debut album of original

music.
