Red Eye Society

About Red Eye Society from Auckland

Hailing from Auckland’s South Central, consisting of rappers J-One & Tek, Red Eye Society combine stories of life, crime and poverty with sinister beats, all wrapped in their own Onehunga slang.

Far from just gangster rap, R.E.S push the boundaries of their art form while capturing their audience with an appealing authenticity. From troublesome youth, to jail time, to fatherhood; their colourful pasts have given J-One and Tek a wide pallet of experiences to draw on in their lyrics

Their time in the spot light has been a long time coming. The group first gained the attention of the music industry after appearing live on the True School Hip Hop Show (95 Bfm) in 2001. A recording of the show was quick to spread on the internet and find its way back to the ears of YDNA & Brotha D of who went on to sign the group to legendary local hip hop label Dawnraid Entertainment.

A shift in the direction of the label saw R.E.S pushed to the side, and despite the release of an acclaimed self titled street album in 2005, the group were disheartened by the nature of the industry.

In 2007 they were freed from their contract and the future was once again looking bright. Long time friend Cyphanetik was quick to get the crew recording and touring again. Their contributions to Breakin Wreckwordz - Its A Monster album showed these guys are still at the front of the pack. DJ Sirvere recently described Tek as “The best rapper in NZ, hands down!”

After headlining the It’s a Monster National Tour of NZ and Australia in 07 (including playing Sydney’s sold out Homebake Festival) the crew are once again embarking on their own NZ tour in April/May to promote their debut video “Good Times Roll”.

Currently in the studio getting tracks ready for their debut commercial release, Red Eye Society are set to raise the bar on hip hop once again.
