About Dam Native from Auckland
DAM NATIVE
NZ’S PURE LYRICIST KING OF HIPHOP
The Penultimate in music is Dam Native! Hip Hop pioneers responsible for an "Urban Musical Cultural Revolution" in Aotearoa/New Zealand.
With Hip Hop as the vehicle, Tangata Whenua (NATIVES) as the driver, Dam Native single-handedly brought international respect and recognition
to Aotearoa/NewZealand Hip Hop music. Through poetic skills of a high level, songwriting genius, phat beats, underground street integrity and a passion for
HipHop culture (BBoying, Breakdancing, Pop-locking, Boogaloo, DJing, MCing and Graffitti Art). Dam Native immediately became the benchmark for Street
Music in N.Z.
DAM NATIVE
NZ’S REAL HIP HOP
Spanning nearly two decades Dam Natives involvement in the N.Z music industry has seen them support major international acts such as Public Enemy, IceT,
Spearhead Ice Cube, Ben Harper, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Del the Funky Homosapien, Big Day Out Tour New Zealand and Australia, Body Count and the Fugees to
name a few.
They were and are the first "true/real" Hip Hop group and the first "Maori Hip Hop" group to win two N.Z music awards (Tuis1996) for "best group" and "best
male vocalist". In the same year they also won “Video of the Year" for the single "Behold my Kool Style" from the groundbreaking first Dam Native Album,
"Kaupapa Driven Rhymes Uplifted" still regarded today as the best N.Z Hip Hop album ever.
