With a name like that we just had to find out more about these girls:

Been around since?

March 2009

Current line up?

Jessie Kollen: guitar and vocals, Sian Robertson: bass and vocals, Anita Worthington: drums and vocals

Where are you based?

Auckland

Musical history?

Jessie and Sian went to high school together. Jessie has been writing songs on guitar for many years and played cello in high school band Bad Contradiction. Last November J and S decided over a bottle of whiskey to put a band together, with another high school friend (who pulled out early on), and then met Anita through a mutual friend in March. Anita's played in a few bands: Operation, The Tim Guy Band and the Johnny Corker Band.

How would you describe your sound?

Indie pop/rock, I guess.

How’d you come up with your name?

It was a name that needed a band. It bounced around for years.

What are you listening to at the moment?

Sian: Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Clash, HLAH, White Stripes, Supergroove, Liz Phair, Pixies, Chili Peppers, myspace browsing
Anita: Justice, Cold Cut, Iggy Pop, lot of house and D&B, electro, Bfm, Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Jessie: the radio

What were you listing to in High School

collectively: Pixies, Bob Dylan, Nirvana, Violent Femmes, Smashing Pumpkins, Liz Phair, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Bob Marley, Rolling Stones, PJ Harvey, Bowie, Radiohead, Nick Cave, Metallica

What is your writing/recording process?

We all sing our own songs, so we tend to do most of the writing alone and then bring it to the band once it's taken shape. Jessie has written most of our songs to date.

Your Dream Collaboration?

this one

Any releases coming up?

Not in the near future. We want to work on our live performance and have fun doing lots of gigs before we get stuck into recording.

If you could have any original vinyl release in the world what would it be?

Sian: Bob Dylan's Highway 61 Revisited

Of all the instruments you own, or have owned, what is your favourite?

Jessie: a little classical guitar called Clarissa, that had the head glued back on.
Anita: my red acoustic guitar, ukelele, Beverly drum kit
Sian: just the one - good old Cort bass (I doubt I'll ever part with it)

What’s the most interesting thing you’ve learnt musically in the last year?

Sian: That it's possible for me to sing in public without dying of fright.
Jessie: that I can still write songs without being on drugs.
Anita: that I can write even better songs on drugs.

What has been your favourite show to date?

Sian: The D4 at the Kings Arms a few years back.
Jessie: Björk concert in 1996.
Anita: Easy and The Defendants (house party); Dizzee Rascal at Big Day Out 2008.

If you could share the stage with anyone (band or person) who would it be?

'The Band'

The future holds…?

Short term: lots of local gigs, long term: record an album and tour NZ and Europe

The state of music in NZ is….

tasty and rich in protein
