Interview with Jeremy from a recently formed Auckland band called Rackets - visit our download section to get yourself one of their songs.

Been around since?

July 09

Current line up?

Jeremy, Vinnie, Oscar

Where are you based?

Ellerslie and Panmure

What got you into music?

We don't know

How did you get together?

I (Jeremy) was/am in God Bows To Math and Oscar and Vinnie where in The Randoms. We started a band called We Score Trys. The randoms broke up and we decided, hey, lets be in a proper band together. We did and it was called Rackets.

How would you describe your sound?

Pretty mean eh.

What are you listening to at the moment?

Modest Mouse, Neil Young, Beatles , John Lennon, Leonard Cohen and Bob Marley.

What is your writing/recording process?

We all play different instruments so it's like who ever writes a riff on any instrument gets to play that instrument. Then the other guys chose what instrument they want to play on the song. We record live with a man called Bob Frisbee.

Your Dream Collaboration?

Jeremy: "Darcy Clay and umm Yngwie Malmsteen"
Oscar: "aw fuck um Frank Black with Phil Spector recorded live at a prison. Cause Phil Spector's in prison for shooting some body." Vinnie: "I reckon like Snoop Dogg and like a screaming guy in a nu metal band" *lols*

Do you have any releases out or on the way?

We are currently recording a album with bob frisbee. An interesting thing that happened was I was walking to the studio and Eric was staring at a car door on the ground and he said "do you think it will rust?" and i said "yep".

What’s the most interesting thing you’ve learnt musically in the last year?

To play bass with the kick drum.

What’s the best concert you have ever been to?

Jeremy: "bang bang aids at whammy bar changed my life"
Oscar: "vampire lezbos at dog bollix and grey daturas"
Vinnie: "grey daturas at kings arms changed my life" *everyones lols*

Best or most memorable gig you have played?

We played outside of a warehouse surrounded by towers of crates in Mt Wellington to two drunk teenagers making out. Our amps where inside shopping trolleys.

If you could share the stage with anyone (band or person) who would it be?

Pixies

Most overrated band at the moment?

Midnight Youth

Most underrated band at the moment?

Bmx Rapists

The future holds…?

Rackets

The state of music in NZ is...

"Pretty average. It's a clean slate for me to have sex with the whole country" - final words, Oscar
