Fantails are playing the San Francisco Bathhouse this Wednesday night as part of their weekly new band showcase. UTR caught up with them to find out why we should head along and check them out.

How did the band start?

Ive been playing in hardcore thrash style punk bands for a few years now, and became really inspired on Shortlived's European tour by female-heavy pop punk bands over there. I was also really keen to play with Charlie, cos I love her drumming.

How long have you been together?

About 9 months

Describe your sound:

Fast, short and at times, messy punk with pop and melodic stuff thrown in the mix.

Who are you influenced or inspired by?

The Assassinators, La Fraction, Limp Wrist, Josephine Baker, Edith Piaf, No Hope For the Kids...

What are you working on at the moment?

The album release has consumed most of our time recently. Im frantically trying to get all the CDs assembled into their pretty screen-printed sleeves, plus combating the arduous task of painstakingly recording our tapes over existing gems I acquired from the op shop. fun!

Future plans?

I've already got some songs rearing to go, plus we're real keen to get some touring on the go.

What can we expect from your live show?

Come along if ya like punk rock. Our set will be indicative of fast punk - short, and probably a bit of sweating...the early start will be great for ya'll strict nanacore types.

Why should we come check out the other bands?

Ever since we've started, the members of Newtown have always been real enthusiastic. I hear they've got a pretty special cover in the works, especially for the show. Ive yet to see Diving, but was real impressed with their sounds online. Pretty excited to see them live:)

The state of the Wellington music scene is:

I'm not really into pretension, and there seems to be a bit of that going on in Wellington unfortunately. I'm a gal who likes raw stuff that isn't too caught up in scenes. But in the 8 or so years Ive lived here, its always had its ebbs and flows. Im sure we're due for an "up" time soon.

Favourite Wellington Bands?

All Seeing Hand, Influence, Nvmb Skvll, Meth Drinker...
