Bio

David Christian Pajo is a musician from Louisville, Kentucky. He first appeared on a single in 1985 with the mid-eighties hardcore group Solution Unknown. They released their first and only LP in 1986. A year later David recorded the first Slint album, Tweez, with engineer Steve Albini. This was followed by an untitled EP and the remarkably influential Spiderland LP. Although Slint had already disbanded when Spiderland was released in 1991, they became the sound of the nineties.

David Pajo went on to record and tour with various Louisville based bands including early incarnations of King Kong and The Palace Brothers. He also began performing and recording with many critically acclaimed rock bands; guitar with Stereolab, bass with Royal Trux, drums with King Kong, guitar with The For Carnation, prepared guitar with Matmos, congas with Palace, and piano with Bonny 'Prince' Billy.

He joined Tortoise in 1993 and went on to record Millions Now Living Will Never Die and TNT with them.

In 1995 he released the first M is the Thirteenth Letter single on Palace Records. This was quickly followed up with the M / Monade (Laetitia Sadier of Stereolab) split single on All City Records.

The first full-length was Aerial M on Drag City Records. This was followed up with a remix record entitled Post Global Music. He released a string of singles and EPs which marked the transition from Aerial M to Papa M.

The first Papa M release was an instrumental opus under the title 'Live From A Shark Cage.' More singles and EPs were to follow– with 'Papa M Sings' heralding the new 'lyric-oriented' sound of Papa M.

Merging the music started with Aerial M with the singing of Papa M Sings, David Pajo released Whatever, Mortal; this time pursuing the iconography of folk songs to get his musical ideas across.

Since Whatever, Mortal there has been a string of EPs and CD singles, the first being Three Songs in a curious three inch CD format.

Then David Pajo joined Zwan, a group consisting of Bily Corgan, Jimy Chamberlain, Paz Lenchantin, and Mat Sweeney. They wrote, recorded, and toured for two years. They released Mary Star of the Sea and disbanded in September of 2003.

But Papa M never ceased. During the course of Zwan, David Pajo started his Audio Tour Diary series, which consisted of song-sketches and audio-journals culled from his new experiences in the mainstream world of music. Every two months a new CD single was released featuring two or three songs of his latest musings. To date there are six singles in the series with the possibility of more in the future.

David Pajo and Paz Lenchantin toured extensively as Papa M. He released Hole of Burning Alms, a compilation of Aerial M / Papa M singles from 1995-2000. This retrospective is a good starting point for anyone interested in a history of David Pajo's solo music.

After playing bass with Early Man in late 2004, Slint reunited to curate the All Tomorrow's Parties festival in the UK. This was followed by a highly successful, one-in-a-lifetime tour of Europe and America.

David's latest offering is a CD under the name Pajo, released in June 2005 on Drag City Records.

Currently David Pajo is living in New York City. He is writing songs for Dead Child– a new group that consists of Todd Cook (Slint, June of 44, Retsin, The For Carnation, Aerial M), Michael McMahan (Slint, The For Carnation, Starkiller, Phantom Family Halo), and Tony Bailey (Anomoanon, The Party Girls, Aerial M).
