Premiere: Auckland Trio Black Science Unveil Video For 'Horizontal Mirror'

Tuesday 4th July, 2017 10:21AM

Auckland-based fuzz rock trio Black Science are set to hit the South Island for a couple of shows this weekend and in anticipation they are rolling out a fantastic clip for 'Horizontal Mirror'. The song is plucked from the group's debut album Burn & Rave, which was released back in March and is now available on limited edition marble vinyl - that you can peep in the clip directed by Monster Valley's Karl Sheridan. Watch below, and scroll on read our wee chat with bandmember Dylan Clarke...

Hi! First off, for those not acquainted, could you please introduce yourselves?

We are Dylan Clarke (vocals/guitar) Joss Colling (bass/vocals) and Alex Willi (drums).

The video you’re releasing is for ‘Horizontal Mirror’, can you tell us a little bit about the song and what it’s about?

The song is basically about time running away on you while partying and getting lost in the moment. The "I'll do that nek Monday" mentality... so basically it's about procrastination and not setting goals. The song resolves at the end somewhat.

How did the video come together? What was the mood your were hoping to capture?

The video is directed by Karl Sheridan of Monster Valley and is kind of advertising the vinyl as well as showcasing the fact that you can listen to it anywhere if you have the wherewithal. It came together over a couple of weekends starring a mystery listener. He's not really into this type of music apparently so the boredom you see on his face is real. We kinda mimicked that buzz with the shots of us playing the tune - an exact opposite type of energy to how we play live which is pretty intense and in yr face.

Is the vinyl in the clip legit some of the highly-anticipated Black Science vinyl?

Yep! We are stoked! It's the first release on Monster Valley Records, 200 limited edition purple marbled vinyl with a poster and cool art direction by Karl Sheridan. $45 a pop!

Why was it particularly important for you to get Burn & Rave pressed to wax?

Very important to me personally as I've always wanted to have my songs on wax. Big vinyl nerd alert. It's a culmination of a lot of dedication for the last close to 10 years and now we can retire.. jokes.. expect the next piece of hot wax within the next year.

Your hitting the South Island this weekend for some shows! What are you looking forward to most?

Really looking forward to see more of the country. We've only really played around the top half of the North Island so it's about time we show our wares down the other end of the country too. It's gonna be a keen buzz. Joss our bassist lives in Dunedin now so we got a bit of intimate time to put in with him too. Can't wait.
