The Pixies To Play NZ

The Pixies To Play NZ

Thursday, 3rd September 2009 7:20AM

Indie Alt ledgends The Pixies have announced their first New Zealand gig in Auckland next year.

The American alternative rock band announced today they will be playing one date at Auckland's Vector Arena on March 12.

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the release of their classic 1989 album, Doolittle, The Pixies will be bringing The Doolittle Tour to the southern hemisphere.

The Pixies will perform all of the songs from Doolittle and its related B-sides, as well as classics such as 'Debaser', 'Wave of Mutilation', 'Here Comes Your Man', 'Hey', and 'Gouge Away'.

The group - Black Francis, Kim Deal, Joey Santiago and David Lovering - will also play in Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth after the Auckland gig.

"We wanted to do something special for Doolittle's 20th anniversary," The Pixies songwriter and singer Black Francis said.

"...we thought this was a good opportunity to play all of the songs from that album, something we don't normally do at a regular gig."

This tour follows on from sell-out 2009 European and US tours showcasing Doolittle.

Tickets will go on sale through Ticketmaster on September 12.

user image good to see they have added some songs to go along with Doolittle. Although 4 of the 5 songs mentioned actually appear on the album? so are they going to only do 1 more song? How bout "Where is my Mind?" my favourite song ever! Still Bloody awesome that they are coming I'm freaking out i'm so excited

user image Spreaking of first born child, mine is due that week! Darn it. Saw them twice very early on - Northampton Come on Pilgrim tour 1987, too young and blasted on cheap cider to appreciate it. However, saw them at Reading Festival 1990 just as "Bossonava" came out. Amazing gig.

user image HAHAAAAAA..... FANTASTIC!!
In 2005 I heard they had reformed , quit my job at Vodafone and went to see them in Scotland at 'T in the Park' .... They were immense. Pixie fans were screaming for them for 3 acts b4 they got onstage and they wreaked carnage. Still the same power .
I would sell my first born child (If I had one) and/or crack to your grandmother if I so need , to get a ticket.
