Watch: Heavenly Pop Hits - The Flying Nun Story

Watch: Heavenly Pop Hits - The Flying Nun Story

Saturday, 21st November 2009 12:00PM

After attending the Chris Knox benefit show last night at the Kings Arms Tavern in Auckland - which was amazing and sold out many times over the course of the evening, we were lucky to get in - we thought we'd head over to NZ On Screen this morning and check out the Chris Knox section where we found the Flying Nun documentary "Heavenly Pop Hits" which was released in 2002 to celebrate the label's 21st birthday. It's a free stream, definitely check it out if you haven't seen it - you can watch here

If you couldn't make the show last night you can get yourself a copy of STROKE Songs For Chris Knox from his website: www.chrisknox.co.nz

It's great to see how many of the bands mentioned in the doco are still alive and well today: The Clean released a new album this year called Mister Pop, Dead C played Wellington earlier in the year and re-released Eusa Kills and DR503 on vinyl which were originally put out by Flying Nun, The Verlaines played a show with Steven Malkmus and The Jicks early in the year and are playing a show in Wellington next month (tickets on sale here), the 3Ds are playing the Laneway Festival next February, Shayne Carter's band Dimmer released a new album this year  called Degrees of Existence and have played a lot of shows including last night where they played some songs from his first two bands Bored Games and Double Happys, The Chills played a sold out show in Auckland a few months back celebrating the 25th anniversary of Pink Frost, The Bats released a new album last year have been touring internationally for most of the year...and the list really does go on.
