Paul Weller Announced To Play Auckland In October

Thursday 27th May, 2010 11:18AM

The so called "Modfather",  Paul Weller is making a rare journey to our shores later in the year for one show only at Auckland's Powerstation on 30th October.  Weller needs little introduction with a career starting out as fronting mod/punk band "The Jam" in the 70s then moving onto Style Council in the 80s and then onto an award winning solo artist.

Press Release:

Paul Weller – arguably the coolest, most stylish, influential man in British rock of the last three decades - has never in his epic career performed in New Zealand. All that is about to change!

This October sees Paul Weller making a long overdue and much anticipated visit to these shores as part of his Australasian ‘Wake Up The Nation tour’.

SATURDAY OCTOBER 30 AUCKLAND THE POWER STATION.

TICKETS ON SALE WEDNESDAY, JUNE 9

Bursting onto the music scene in 1977 as leader singer of The Jam, Paul Weller fronted the most popular British band of the punk era, influencing legions of English rockers ranging from Oasis to Ocean Colour Scene.

Between their 1977 debut single release “In The City” to their break-up in 1982 The Jam charted 18 consecutive Top 40 singles in the UK, including four #1 hits – “Going Underground”, “Start”, “Town Called Malice” and their last single release “Beat Surrender”.

Disbanding The Jam at the end of 1982, Weller explored his interest in a wider range of musical genres when he teamed up with Mick Talbot to form The Style Council in 1983. Unveiling this new musical diversity with The Style Council’s first single “Speak Like A Child”, with its strong soul influence, subsequent singles such as “Money Go Round”, “My Ever Changing Moods”, “Shout To The Top”, “Walls Come Tumbling Down”, “Long Hot Summer” & “Have You Ever Had It Blue” stomp, groove and sashay their way through pop to jazz to soul and R&B.

With the demise of The Style Council in 1989, Paul Weller withdrew from the public eye for a couple of years before once again returning to prominence with two of his most lauded, critically acclaimed and popular releases – 1993’s Wild Wood and 1995’s Stanley Road.

As one of Britain’s most intriguing artists Paul Weller has continued to add to a songbook to rival any of his peers with the sheer scope of his musical adventurism.

Now entering a new phase of his career with a fresh collection of songs, Weller’s latest offering ‘Wake Up The Nation’, his 25th Album, is out now and amassing glowing reviews.

Don’t miss what will no doubt be an exciting, passionate display of rock-star cool by a performer still at the top of his musical game, live on stage in October.
