Superette, Voom and Mestar Shows

Tuesday 26th September, 2006 3:30PM

Friday October 27th, San Francisco Bath House,
Wellington Saturday October 28th, Kings Arms, Auckland

Superette never really broke up, they just fizzled out, and now they are going to sizzle right back. Fizzle then really sizzle.

With some much needed encouragement from their old buddies Voom, Superette have decided to do a couple of one-off shows to celebrate 10 years since releasing their debut (and only) album ‘Tiger’. But that’s not the only reason for the good times. Voom have recently released their ace new album ‘Hello Are You There’ and Mestar are about to release their crunchy second longplayer ‘Shut the Squizwot Factories Down’ (out October 2nd).

Sounds like a good a reason for a party.

In fact, Superette played their very first ever gig with Voom. If memory serves them correctly, a small and somber audience enjoyed the cold cavernous ambience, dirty mirrors and grotesque paintings of an early nineties downtown ‘grunge’ bar called Pod. So they may as well make it the first and probably the last.

For those with shorter memories, Superette released two Eps ‘Rosepig’ (1994) and ‘Touch Me’ (1996) and one album ‘Tiger’ (1996) on Flying Nun. At that time there were a whole bunch of great bands around, and bands that Superette toured NZ with included Bailter Space, the 3Ds, Pavement, The Tufnels, Garageland and more. Greta Anderson (drums) currently lives in Sydney Australia, David Mulcahy (guitar, vocals) plays in more bands that we can keep track of (Black Snake, Raygunn, Eskimo and solo) and Ben Howe (bass) plays in White Swan and runs indie label Arch Hill Recordings.

Both Voom and Mestar really kick up a storm live these days and they are both riding on a high following the completion of recent albums, so this will complete a line up that shouldn’t be missed.
