Best known as the voice of Fur Patrol, Julia Deans is set to release her debut album Modern Fables on July 12. In support of the release, she has offered up a download of the title track, which is the latest single off the album. If you head over HERE, you will be able to trade your email address in return for the song. The download is being offered for a limited time.

Deans has also announced a few live dates in August around the country. You can find those below, as well as some more information about her new album.

Julia Deans (The voice of Fur Patrol) is proud to announce the release of her debut solo album Modern Fables on July 12. The album features the singles ‘A New Dialogue’ and title track ‘Modern Fables’ which is at radio now.

Known across the lands as Fur Patrol's charismatic and charming front-woman, Julia Deans has been singing fables and truths to New Zealand audiences since the late 90's. At a time when local music was the strongest and most popular it had been in decades, Fur Patrol broke out from the Wellington underground into the forefront of our country's rock scene with radio singles ‘Lydia’ and ‘Andrew’ and a live show reputed as one of the best around.

Deans’ voice is one that careens and soars and is able to shift elegantly between heartbreaking falsetto to an assured growl. It's a voice you know, and one that has only enriched itself in the years since we first heard it.

Julia Deans' Modern Fables is a step away from the driving rock and anthemic, sonic journeys Fur Patrol created. While there are still moments of rock grandeur, Deans has allowed more of an introspective, acoustic pop side of her songwriting to emerge. At times tinged with folk, at others pure balladry, Modern Fables showcases a talent gracefully exploring other avenues of musical expression.
