RIP Travis Bean

RIP Travis Bean

Tuesday 12th July, 2011 9:00AM

Clifford Travis Bean, founder and name behind the iconic aluminum necked Travis Bean brand guitars, passed away on Sunday (10th July) after a battle with lung cancer.

The Californian luthier and machinist founded the Travis Bean brand early in the 1970s along with Marc McElwee and Gary Kramer (founder of Kramer guitars). Travis Bean guitars differed from any of their time due to their aluminum neck/head stock and were (and still are) played by Steve Albini (Shellac, Big Black), Lee Renaldo (Sonic Youth), Yannis Philippakis (Foals), Duane Denison (Jesus Lizard), Keith Richards and Ron Wood (Rolling Stones) and many more (see here for a list).
