New Order have split up and will not be getting back together, according to the band's bass player Peter Hook.
In an interview with the radio station Xfm, Hook said that he and singer Bernard Sumner were no longer working together.
"Bernard went off for a break with Electronic [Sumner's side project with Johnny Marr] but that was different," Hook told the radio station.
"But it's like the boy who cried wolf this time."
The legendary musician revealed the news when he was discussing a new project with Jane's Addiction singer Perry Farrell called Satellite Party.
He discussed the new project before letting slip that Perry had "heard about New Order splitting up and he asked me to play bass".
New Order formed in the wake of Joy Division after frontman Ian Curtis killed himself in 1980.
The new band took its dance and electronic influences to new heights, moving away from the Joy Division sound and releasing their own trademark material.
Songs like Blue Monday, Confusion and Procession were top 20 hits in the UK and the band attracted a loyal fan base as well as critical appreciation from the music press.
The band's last album was Waiting for the Sirens Call, released in 2005.
