The latest word from the Arch Hill Camp:

While us folks in the southern hemisphere may be thinking about hunkering down for the soggy season, drinking mulled turnip wine, spending a month under the duvet, consider this!; the stoic musicians on the Arch Hill label soldier on regardless...and here is what they have in store for you!

Forthcoming Grand Prix album and shows
Pine Mini-album
‘Living Legend’ Don McGlashan’s North Island shows
Haints of Dean Hall with Jose Gonzales
Digital stuff and all that.

Forthcoming Grand Prix Album and Shows

Yep that’s right, Wellington’s favorite sludgy country combo are back with a significant line-up reshuffle, an album recorded in a car club under frightening metaphysical circumstances (we’ll tell you about that later) and even more of a kicking live show. Andrew McKenzie (vocals, guitar) and Davey Geard (drums, vocals) remain – but they are now joined on the bass by Nato ‘the Force’ Hickey (Paseload, Fly My Pretties) and on keyboards by Adam Ladley (Velvetones, The Bonnie Scarlets). These changes (and a brush with ‘The Devil’) have bought a more confident 1960s and 1970s musicality to their sound. It also brings a little more drive at the low ‘ass moving’ end, a touch more burning organ in the middle and a smidgen more widescreen trem-reverberation up at the top. Of course McKenzie’s thunderous voice remains, which was described by Scott Kara of the NZ Herald as “a cross between Nick Cave and Kiwi country icon, John Hore Grenell” Holy Cow! The album is due out on July 2nd and is called Terraplane Twilight

Upcoming Grand Prix shows

Saturday 23 Jun 2007?at Mighty Mighty Wellington, New Zealand

Pine Mini Album “Twelve Hour Collision”
As we have already told you Pine released their mini-album “Twelve Hour Collision” last month and played a bunch of shows in Auckland and Christchurch. The seven tracker comes with two bonus live tracks and two live videos from their ‘house’ tour of New Zealand (which involved playing in peoples living rooms, recording it and filming it as well). Real Groove magazine gave the Mini album four stars and writes “Pine have crafted songs destined to melt hearts and be the soundtrack of memories” the parties in lounges Juggernaut continues to Wanaka and Timaru in the coming weeks.

Don McGlashan and the Seven Sisters hit the road in the North Island and recognised as “Living Legend”
Thursday 21st of June 2007 at Hope Bros in Wellington, New Zealand
Friday 22nd of June at Lattitude Live, Napier, New Zealand
Saturday 23rd of June at the Poverty Bay Club, Gisborne, New Zealand
Don McGlashan was recently one of seven Aucklanders recognised as a "living legend" by Mayor Dick Hubbard for their contribution to the community.
Don was slightly mystified when he found out he had been singled out for the honour. "I've got no idea how I deserve this but I do love this community and if I'm doing something that benefits them I better keep doing it," he said.

The Haints of Dean Hall Support Jose Gonzales in Auckland
Having just completed a very successful May NZ tour the Haints return to Auckland to play the opening slot for Jose Gonzales at the Hopetoun Alpha in August. This show has already sold out!
Tuesday 14th of August the Haints of Dean Hall with Jose Gonzales
Arch Hill digital stuff on iTunes, emusic, Rhapsody, Napster and all
Yep, although most of the Arch Hill catalog has been up on there various sites for a little while now we hadn’t quite consolidated it all in one place so it is easy for people to find...but now if you go to the Arch Hill Recordings shop most of them are linked up for your easy location. There are a few older titles and recent ones that are waiting to added but should be there in the next week or two.

There should also be credit card buying facilities on the site in the next week or so in order to keep up with the ever increasing number of online sales were are experiencing. In fact, traffic to the site has become such that in may the website crashed briefly due to too much traffic and not enough bandwidth...
