Big Day Out Map and Timetable

Thursday 20th December, 2007 12:00PM

Promoters have today unveiled two of the most essential pieces in the Big Day Out puzzle for 2008 – the site map and stage times for the one day music festival in Auckland on Friday 18 January.

Students at Auckland Orienteering College welcomed the map and stage times as the entire school will be using the Big Day Out for a 12 hour assignment this year.

“This was an initiative from the kids themselves,” head teacher Raymond Tolleymander told the media today. “Almost the entire class of 2007/8 are madly passionate fans of Rage Against the Machine. Earlier this year they voted to make the band’s anthem “Killing In The Name Of” the official school song and it is now sung at each assembly.”

The students then presented Tollymander with the idea that he should make the Big Day Out a 12 hour orienteering assignment for the whole school on 18 January.

“We’re using this map and the stage times to set the kids the task of making it round the Big Day Out and catching key moments on the day,” said Tolleymander.

He explained one of the most difficult challenges he has set the class will be a mid-afternoon race from watching False Start (2-2.30) on the Local Produce stage, stopping at Lilyworld to down a cocktail and catch some of Mu’s DJ set (2-ish), then making their way down to the merch tent in the main arena to purchase a t-shirt and back up to the Essential Stage to see Kate Nash (2.30-3.15) and finishing that segment with a ride on the superloop.

The Big Day Out – it’s more than just the greatest musical festival of the summer, make it the start of your rock education for 2008.
