Holy hell, what is this? Fun, danceable, rebellious, fresh. The new album by up and comers Vampire Weekend is an album full of pop/white reggae/indie tunes that i'm going to use to keep my summer going just that little bit longer.

This New York band was roughly discovered though band blogs, which later lead to them being on Letterman's Late Show and recently invited to ATP festival in the UK.

To put this album in a bag, would be to slightly liken it to the Clash in feel or rhythm, but with a porridge full of electro bits stirred in, that in many other contexts wouldn’t work, but with a bit of a youthful approach, it comes across fresh. Fuck it's February and this could be the record of the year.

This band should/will be very big

vampire are bourgeois to their very (upper east side) core. and unless they are making a post-modern reference to the beginning of rock music which blatantly stole from the black guys then they are more stupidd then i thought. they are like that favourite hooker you have. its fun and makes you forget about the world for half an hour but then it finishes and you feel emptiness inside and you know that it wasn't real. that is vampire weekend : vapid

They take heaps of inspiration/influence from african bands, particularily South african township style guitaring. It's a genre not many people know of, thoughI give vampire weekend thumbs up for doing it (Cape cod kwassa kwassa) and doing it well!
