This makes each new release and every tour they undertake a bonafide event. The latest happening comes in the form of their new EP Tom's Lunch.
Opening song and lead single 'Bob Lennon John Dylan' doesn't waste any time in getting its groove on. It is packed full of buoyant rhythms, ghostly harmonies, and even manages a mangled guitar solo as it flies by at an alarming pace - pop music maximalism at its finest. Even when they can't maintain that velocity they are certainly no less engaging for it. The EP glides through taut disco grinders, electro funk, and heart-stirring rock without even breaking a sweat.
Tom's Lunch is only a brief EP but it shows off so many facets of The Phoenix Foundation so economically. They can be manic song-smiths, goofy balladeers, sonic architects, and so much more in such a short span of time. Every one of these five songs shows off a vastly different, but equally clever element to their collective personality.
