GALESBURG is very proud to present - a double-header international to make you weep & dance simultaneous-like:

CAMERA OBSCURA (UK) with THE BOOKS (USA)
January 19th @ SFBH, WELLINGTON

~~~
Time to dust off those dancing shoes and grab your hankies- because Camera Obscura are returning to our shores this January!
Formed in Glasgow in 1996, Camera Obscura have been perfecting their style of bittersweet pop for over a decade. The creators of a truly timeless sound, their songs are packed full of verbose orchestral flourishes and soaring melodies, softening the blow of darkly realistic lyrical takes on love, being in love, falling in love and what a total shit love can be. Their latest album, My Maudlin Career (2009) is their biggest and most ambitious record to date, with Tracyanne Campbell's expressive and soulful voice sailing over the alternately brisk then weepy guitars and strings- confiding, griping, sighing and dreaming, picking at the complexity of people and romance. Camera Obscura run the gamut all the way to joy and back again- it's a whirlwind of talent and dourness that must be experienced live.
Make sure you catch Scotland's finest purveyors of gorgeously dour pop music- Camera Obscura, this January.
Hunters, gatherers, purveyors and consumers of all things musical- The Books, for the first time in New Zealand, live with Camera Obscura in Wellington!
Whispering away at the fringes of the indie music scene since 2000, The Books have spent the last decade in and around New York City crafting and refining their meticulous and eclectic sonic masterpieces. Aural adventurers and archivists, Nick Zammuto and Paul de Jong gather their unique music in tiny parts- unearthing sounds lost or forgotten, using them to make a distinctive, beautiful world. Piecing together an old self help tape or a telephone ring, electronic beats, perhaps a banjo looped and sampled into a kind of timeless space, their songs are where nostalgia splits and spins out in a digital kaleidoscope that shines with vocal fragments and seemingly random sounds that are at once familiar and yet totally foreign. Their last record proper, Lost and Safe (2005) is a finely wrought and utterly unique take on pop music, carefully constructed from a myriad of sources, standing out as one of the most unusual records in recent years. Rarely playing live, this is a show you won't want to miss.
