Ben the Hoose is a duo featuring fiddler Kenny Ritch from the Orkney Isles, and award-winning songwriter and guitarist Bob McNeill from Glasgow. They are based in New Zealand. Kennys fluid, vibrant fiddle playing and Bobs rhythmic chording and precise counterpoint are a perfect marriage of styles. Their live performances feature a wealth of traditional Scottish tunes as well as modern compositions, music from movies, and Bob’s original songs.
Paddy Burgin hails from Wellington, where he makes guitars and octave mandolins by day for people all over the world, including musicians like David Lindley and Henry Kaiser. In concert he walks the tricky path of the singer songwriter with his weissenborn slide guitar in one hand and a humorous map of New Zealand in the other. The Wooden Box Band’s repertoire is a mixture of songs and instrumentals, all relating to people and places in Aotearoa. Expect acoustic guitars, double bass, harmonica, percussion and lyrics described as sensitive, gentle, probing and poetic.
