The Devin Townsend Project

The Devin Townsend Project

Sat Mar 20th, 2010

Doors open: 8:00 pm
Entry: All Ages

In a world of increasing conformity and musical banality, Devin Townsend is among the few real personalities who have character, charisma and surprising innovative creativity. As a solo artist and producer, the founding member of prog-metal innovators Strapping Young Lad, and vocalist on Steve Vai’s album 'Sex And Religion', Townsend has always inspired fans and critics alike. The latest chapter of his extremely diverse career, the self-styled Devin Townsend Project, makes its way to New Zealand for a one-off appearance in Auckland in March in support of their latest concept piece 'Addicted'.

Drawing influence from as electic a range of inspirations as Zappa, Meshuggah, Boney M, Jane's Addiction and Fear Factory, Townsend and his band of musical misfits push the boundaries of genre categorisation to its very limits. Part rock opus, dancefloor anthem, prog metal epic and Floyd flourishes, this is a band shaped purely by raw expression, not formula or convention. Unabashedly groove-driven and chorus-oriented, boundlessly energetic and positive, this is music with musicology in its brain and rock and roll rebellion in its heart.

Live, Townsend draws deeply from his vast musical background, performing selections from each of his individual projects, reflecting the many shades of this uniquely visionary performer and producer. Showcasing over 15 years of musical unorthodoxy with, in Townsend's own words heavy guitars, big choruses and killer beats, The Devin Townsend Project perform at Auckland's Transmission Room on Saturday March 20th. Tickets available now from Moshtix, Real Groovy and www.undertheradar.co.nz
