The Mamaku Project
Sat May 15th, 2010
Doors open: 8:30 pm
Entry: All Ages
The Mamaku Project weaves French bohemian roots, Pacifica dub and
electro-Oriental-jazz into a captivating and sultry musical concoction, spliced with a
sprinkling of circus.
Named after the tall native Mamaku tree fern, the project was born from the meeting of two French- New Zealand artists, Tui Mamaki and Monsieur Escargot,
at the Errobiko Festival in Pays Basque in France.
Now based on and drawing inspiration from Auckland’s West Coast and a raft of local musicians, the project’s multi-lingual noir poetry and infectious earthy grooves will stir your soul and move your feet.
“… A very impressive show, weaving a dense musical web of sounds including sultry and moody dub, mixed with quintessentially French and bohemian melodies and enchanting elements of the east… giving off a very theatrical exuberance…
