Karen Hunter And Scrapyard Cabaret
Sat May 8th, 2010
Doors open: 8:30 pm
Entry: R18
One of the best-kept secrets in the New Zealand music scene, guitarist and singer-songwriter Káren Hunter blends hipster jazz grooves and dirty blues,
with provocative streetwise poetry.
Auckland-based Hunter sings, speaks and scats through her original music,
liberally embellishing stories and bridging the gap between the dangerous
and the mundane.
Collaborating in the Scrapyard Cabaret are musicians:
Aaron Coddel (Bass), Neil Watson (Guitar), Adam Tobeck (Drums),
Sung Jin Hong (Trumpet) and Jess Curtis (Vocals).
Káren Hunter Scrapyard Cabaret features songs from her most recent releases, Words & Groove and Rubble in this brand new cabaret experience
created especially for ERUPT 2010.
“That she can switch from a dirty jazz-blues rhythm section arrangement to a simple guitar-picking delivery to spoken word reveals Hunter as a major New Zealand talent.” Waikato Times
Karen Hunter is a ridiculously accomplished guitar-playing, singing, songwriting Aucklander whose performances are pithy, compassionate and insightful. Metro.
