TUESDAY 4TH MAY, 8PM.
BOHEMIAN NIGHTS
Well known in Melbourne and throughout Australia, violinist Ernie Gruner and accordionist/singer Phil Carroll are also favourites on the folk and ethnic music scenes in New Zealand. In a variety of guises (often with other musicians) they have now visited five times. For them, tour no 6 will be like coming home. They draw from diverse sources: Gypsy, Klezmer, Middle-Eastern, French, Italian, Russian, jazz and tango. Their music ranges from soulful to wild. They have both studied overseas, and play and record together in larger bands (Klezmeritis, Yalla!, Flirting Mazurkas).
Ernie and Phil are playing two concerts in the Wellington area. On Tuesday 4 May at 8pm they will play at Katipo Café, 76 Willis Street. On 5 May at 8pm they will play a house concert at MusicHaven (home of Ruth Birnie & Gerard Hudson), 69 Rimu Rd, Raumati Beach. Tickets are $20 from ruthbirnie@clear.net.nz or 04 905 3838 or door sales.
