GREAT NORTH – Soldiers EP (Self-released)
Where did this excellent group spring from' Almost unheralded until now, Great North play a mature-but-not-boring blend of indie, folk and country, and their debut EP Soldiers is nothing if not a hint at some great things to come. Memorable melodies, toe-tapping ditties, strong yet considered vocals, and enough tricks up their sleeve to keep them unique, Soldiers was recorded by upcoming producer Dave Parker (Teacups, Artisan Guns…) and is really quite a solid little release. Sorry to sound so surprised in my review, it’s just that a band this good don’t usually sneak up on me like this. I was startled, and reacted in the only way I know how. MC
