The 2010 Pirate City Rollers’ season got off to a bang when Dead Wreckoning and Mascara Massacre faced off for the first time since the final of the 2009 Circus of the Scars season.

As the reigning champion, Dead Wreckoning was determined to hold onto its winning status, but Mascara Massacre weren’t going down without a fight. The first half saw Mascara make the most of their aggressive jammers - Razor Czech, WolveRina and Spar Kill racked up the points - and build impenetrable walls with their agile blockers, leaving the score board in their favour at half time. In the second half, Dead Wreckoning regrouped and sent out their dream team, complete with Terror Satana taking a turn at jamming, and a power pack of blockers, to wrestle the score back to a two point difference.

The players were on the edge of their skates, and the crowd on the edge of their seats as the bout came down to the last jam. The penalty box claimed an important role as Mascara Massacre lost their jammer for a foul, leaving Dead Wreckoning jammer Mia Vendetta to score the winning points for Dead Wreckoning. At the final whistle, Dead Wreckoning took away a win, 110-103.

With one win under their helmets, Dead Wreckoning are readying themselves for their next challenge against the mysterious Hell’s Wives. All bets are off when it comes to these fiery ladies from the North. Little is known about them and Dead Wreckoning won’t be taking anything for granted.

Despite the unknown element of the next bout, fans can be sure of a few things. It wouldn’t be derby without the hard hits, short shorts, falls, fishnets and pile ups. And it wouldn’t be a derby bout without the fans screaming from the sidelines, so if you’re a Dead Wreckoning fan, or you hail from the North with the Hell’s Wives, this bout is going to be carnage-filled and a must see!
