Gig Information

The Postures were formed in Wellington in 2006. At times punkish, and thrashy, they also incorporate elements of noise, minimalism, primitive rock, melodies and discordant riffs with a subtle groove that touches on the sonic territories explored by the likes of The 3Ds, and The Gordons. As a live act they hold nothing back - loud, fast, relentless, and always intense. They recorded their debut self titled EP at Happy with Warwick Donald in September 2009, it was released in February of 2010, initially distributed with the help of MUZAI Records, that relationship has since lead to The Postures happily signing to MUZAI Records, it seems like the perfect time to come up and play an Auckland release.

Auckland’s Popstrangers formed in 2008, this three piece have quickly built up a strong support following appearances at BDO, and Rhythm and Vines, an appearance on BFM’s Fancy New Band and the B Street NZ Music Month launch at Britomart on May 1st. Self proclaimed melodramatic indie rock - an accurate description would be the combining elements of noise, pop and post punk. An affinity for bands like The Gordons and Sonic Youth, and their post punk leanings should make for a good show, and as such the Popstrangers are a welcome addition to an already exciting line up.

Hamilton based post rock/shoe gaze outfit Sora Shima have been around since 2006, alternatively sparse, spacious to full and textured. Their solid instrumentals and feel for nice gradual build-ups have seen them become a well respected addition to New Zealand’s sonic community, and rate well along side the likes of Jakob, Kerretta and now defunct Dukes of Leisure. Last time they were in Wellington saw Jeremy Nolan (The Postures/Force Fields/Dukes of Leisure) on guitar, here’s hoping there’s a repeat this time around.

God Bows To Math have come off a successful set at Campus A Low Hum, and after releasing a split EP with Dunedin’s TFF have carved out a name for themselves as a tight post punk and noise rock 3 piece. Their own tendency to joke about their music and take the piss (much like The Postures, it should be said) belies a focused and driven sound that is one of the more interesting and energetic bands to emerge from Auckland over the past couple of years. In God Bows To Math one finds elements of 80s hardcore, 80s and 90s noise rock, and post punk that make up one sweet noisy racket. Tight, straight forward, yet chaotic and out of control almost at the same time
