The Extremely Epic 42 Date New Zealand Tour 2010.
Auckland trio Rackets, Dunedin quartet Alizarin Lizard & one man band the Porpoise are about to embark on a solid jaw dropping 42 date New Zealand tour. The traveling road show will cover New Zealand extensively throughout October, November & December 2010. This could be New Zealand music history right here. This is the definition of really hitting the road properly for a Ne...w Zealand tour.
Rackets are the band on everyones lips with two number ones on Aucklands bFM (Bedsores and 42 and a Half). The group have just released two debut albums called Friends and High Places treating listeners to 20 intense tracks of raw, energetic musical goodness. Made up of members from The Randoms and God Bows to Math, Rackets are renowned for their intense live experience and quirky melodies. The albums were produced by legend Bob Frisbee (The D4, Street Chant) and he has captured their intense, uncomplicated, raw essence. They have just supported Head Like A Hole on their reunion shows and have a solid reputation as one of Aucklands hardest working / gigging bands. Now its about time to strap themselves to the beast for a 6 week grind across New Zealand.
Rackets uphold a lively and unpretentious approach to songwriting that sounds super fresh.
- Chris Cudby, Real Groove Magazine.
Alizarin Lizard has taken on the task of trying to shape and embellish the beautiful madness of the angular ideas their songwriter Paul Cathro throws at them. The result ranges from the extremities of sharp, snappy pop, to feathers falling from a dark sky, to a damp ground, which then feed off the moisture, then turn into flower birds, which fly away to the massive realm of large sounds, and in many cases encompassing both worlds in the same song. The Dunedin quartet have been through various instrument changes before finding the magic formula, which consists of Paul Cathro (guitar and vocals), Benjamin Sargeant (drums), Logan Hampton (keys and b.vs), and Bugs (bass and b.vs). The songs are trippy & poppy with edge & subtlety. Stand out tracks include Supermarket Shopping, Billy Ray & The Break Up Before The Party.
Wrenching, magical. That's (Cathro's) ability ' to make the abstract move you' one of the greatest songwriters I know.
Rackets & Alizarin Lizard will be supported by a new project called The Porpoise. A one man band aka Callum Hampton from the Dunedin based psychedelic space rock band Left Or Right. Porpoise likes to be in his natural habitat most of the time with his left handed bass & Casio club thumping beats swimming around whilst enjoying the songwriting talents of Darcy Clay, Frank Zappa & Devo amongst others.
