Ruby’s Blue Hearts Tour showcases Bullfrog Rata, Laura Collins and Mojo Mama, in a night of swamp blues, boogie and alt-country.
Bullfrog Rata, from the swamps of the Manawatu, ‘one hell of a bluesman with buckets of soul and a freight train of rhythm and groove’ has been playing with his own band The Undergators for over ten years. He’s currently working on his second CD ‘ Ain’t Superstitious’ recorded live at the Globe as part of ‘Swamp-fulla blues’, to be released later this year. He’s toured with Midge Marsden, most recently in 2006 on the road with Charlie Musselwhite. He’s opened for many international blues acts, most recently Watermelon Slim.
Laura Collins, ‘Wellington’s underground queen of alt-country’, is known for her soulful vocal style, and lyrics that go straight to the heart. She’s working on a new EP, which follows ‘Cast a line’ released in 2006.
Mojo Mama combines Laura, leaving the melancholy behind to be replaced by blues ‘n cheek, with Cindy Muggeridge on Boogie keys. These women are ‘all about the show’, they state they “like to hand out a little sass and tear it up in true blues mama fashion, without taking ourselves too seriously!” Bullfrog, with Earl Pollard on the drums and George Barris on the bass make up their band on brave ‘hired guns’. Expect a rollicking good time.
These three acts combine to make Ruby’s Blue Hearts Tour offering a night to feed the head, heart and feet.
