Afternoon Raj!

Afternoon Raj is the sound of Hawkes Bay in the big city, it’s the sound of summer

After one listen you can't help but feel the energy that manages to make its way from the speakers to that place in your mind that only some music manages to touch.

We're just three guys who all share the same passion for music. We love what we do. Our gigs promise dancing, nudity, and just a good ol time for everyone. From our humble startings in a garage to a fully legit warehouse jam room, we are cranking out the tunes. Watch this space.

Chris Jamieson - Drums - Sexy-ness

Mara Simpson (of Mara and the Bushkas)

MARA & THE BUSHKAS formed in Wellington, February 2010 after Mara Simpson, British Singer-Songwriter, bumped into session guitarist Matthew Newman in a Cuba St music shop. The two argued over Atlantic soul, Matthew lost the argument and was forfitted to jam with Mara and Bushka founding bassist Bruce Reid from The Volunteers. A versatile drummer was clearly needed; and fellow Singer-Songwriter and friend Jean Pompey of Olmecha Supreme and Sheeba was the obvious choice. The Bushka project was born.

Mara's kenyan roots, love of Janis Joplin & The Rolling Stones, and tendancy to produce volume that outsizes her, combined with her killer band from all walks of life, creates the truly unique sound that is Mara & The Bushkas. Folk, Rock, Soul, Pop – or an echo of decades past – you'll need to hear them to find out.
