Gig Information

THE WHISKEY LIVE is a series of concerts presented annually by THE WHISKEY bar in Auckland’s Ponsonby Road as a celebration of New Zealand Music Month each May. Featuring a broad spectrum of New Zealand musicians performing one of a kind, limited capacity shows; THE WHISKEY LIVE is fast becoming a headline attraction of New Zealand Music Month each year.

Two musicians, one loop station, a synth and a couple of guitar amps can generate massive noise in the right hands. And in these hands they do, just like a rumble in a souk they wield their instruments with hectic passion and in a dangerously free manner.

Cairo Knife Fight is a duo made up of two of New Zealand’s finest musicians, Nick Gaffaney and Aaron Tokona. Nick has made a name for himself as drummer for the best New Zealand music has to offer including; Anika Moa, Goldenhorse, Jan Hellriegel, Fat Freddy’s Drop and Dimmer. Aaron will be familiar to fans as the founder and front man of iconic rock group Weta. Together they form a musical force like no other. Powerful, hectic and passionate performances with songs that twist and turn, taking the listener through many moods and sensations.

AHORIBUZZ is the solo project and brainchild of Aaron Tokona (Weta, Cairo Knife Fight, Bongmaster). The band was formed in early 2007. It started with the intention to bring a group of friends together book a date at a venue turn up on the day and play the gig! A pretty ballsy thing to do except that all of the musicians involved included members from Fat Freddy Drop, The Blackseeds, The Phoenix Foundation, Twinset, etc etc blah blah ! Needless to say that first gig was the first of many to come and from that point the band and more importantly its music has evolved and developed into a solid working entity.

The line up includes: AHORIBUZZ, Andrew Keoghan, Anika Moa, Annabel Fay, Avalanche City, Barnaby Weir, Bic Runga, Cairo Knife Fight, Che Fu, Clap Clap Riot, Dave Dobbyn, Dave McArtney & Friends, Don McGlashan, Dukes, F IN MATH, Greg Fleming & The Trains, Greg Johnson, Hello Sailor, Jan Hellriegel, Jason Kerrison featuring The Babysitters Circus, Jonny Love, LA Mitchell, Luke Thompson, Motocade, Nairobi Trio, Nathan Haines and the Dream Band, People of Paris, The Peter Urlich Sextet, Ruby Frost, The Jordan Luck Band, The Thomas Oliver Band.

Tickets are limited and go on-sale on Friday 15th April via Ticketmaster – www.ticketmaster.co.nz or phone 0800 111 999. Full show info is available at www.whiskeybars.com.
