Bringing it back to Auckland
Chris Matthews has been a longtime mainstay of the left-of-centre side of NZ original music, having made his name in a number of seminal bands, including Childrens Hour and, probably his most well-known and well-received, Headless Chickens.
Maturity may well dull the chaos but certainly not the quirkiness nor musical integrity and progression, as Chris steps up to the plate and brings his current outlet - Robot Monkey Orchestra - to Auckland for a rare treat.
In an ably-supporting role, Chris Matthews + RMO will be joined on the night by Squirm - Christchurchs finest art/punk/glam outfit (dusted off from the 90s, a powerhouse in their own right) - and El Bajo, a skewed rock tour-de-force from Auckland that sound akin to falling down stairs (while smiling).
A night of challenging musical propositions, these three bands certainly do not blend into the wallpaper. Bring your eyes, your ears, your mind - and be ready for all to be opened.
