To ensure everyone keeps warm this winter, Loop is stoking the fire and bringing the heat with A.V.A.D.S.D. at the Leigh Sawmill Café on Saturday 6 August.
The Midnights, Wellington’s The Nudge and Lyttleton’s AHoriBuzz will unite, to mash everything from vintage reggae, blues, wonky psychedelic vibes and mean jams.
The Nudge
The Nudge’s live performances are fast becoming the stuff of folklore – during their last appearance in Auckland, technical problems saw the band rise to the occasion and lay down a ridiculously impressive impromptu segue midway through their set. Informed by a plethora of genres, the trio’s sound is complex, combining in equal measures fuzzy psychedelia and gritty swamp stomp rhythm and blues. Having recently supported Little Bushman, Fly My Pretties and The Black Seeds; just finished recording their debut album at The Surgery; and played a heap of well-received shows in their hometown, we think their stars are aligning perfectly and big things are on the horizon for these boys!
AHoriBuzz
Those who witnessed the fitness of AHoriBuzz at their last Auckland gig at Khuja can testify to how badass the band is. A jam band of sorts, you never quite know how things are going to roll when AHoriBuzz plays. The solo project and brainchild of the enigmatic Aaron Tokona (Weta, Cairo Knife Fight, Bongmaster) AHoriBuzz features a constant revolving line-up of talented musicians. Currently a trio, Tokona leads the outfit on vocals, MPC and guitar while Nick Gaffney (also Cairo Knife Fight) and Hori anchor the outfits mean rhythm section. Since forming, they have released two singles that have become underground favourites & played a string of impressive gigs including support for Fat Freddy’s Drop & Shapeshifter.
The Midnights
Having spent their formative years honing their craft playing late night house parties, dive bars and crashing the odd folk evening, The Midnights have become notorious for their energetic and raw live shows. Word of mouth has secured them slots alongside reggae legends such as The Wailers, Third World, The Skatalites, Big Youth and Maxi Priest while their DIY ethic and healthy senses of humour has earned them a reputation for genre-bending tunes, hilariously bizarre music videos and an unpredictable style. After recently knuckling down in Roundhead Studios to record some fresh tracks, The Midnights are now in training, increasing their physical regime, limbering up and getting ready to kick out the jams.
