With the Rugby World Cup all up in New Zealand roller derby's business, Pirate City Rollers has had to have a change of plan this season. So now, the league's two hottest teams will battle it out for one last time this year on July 16. It all comes down to this. Having knocked crowd favourites Mascara Massacre out early in the season, New Zealand's oldest roller derby team, Dead Wreckoning, has to face off against new force to be reckoned with, Alpha Beta Slammers, in a do-or-die match to decide which team takes home the Black Dahlia Cup for 2011.
Dead Wreckoning knows the faces of Alpha Beta Slammers well - for years, many of Alpha Beta Slammers' finest donned the black and white skeletons, helping the mighty Dead Wreckoning dominate, game after game. But with the creation of the Slammers this year, experience was spread amongst the league, dividing the conquerers. Now these two teams square off for the first time ever - you do not want to miss this powerful display of fever pitch sprinting, blocking and tactical strategy. If you see one game of Pirate City Roller Derby in 2011, this is the one!
Meanwhile, for those of you hanging out for some August action, save August 20 in your diaries. PCR's best skaters will be teaming up for an all-star, all-out interleague match against their friends from down the line. We know you'll like it, so stay tuned!
