FATHER AND SON GUITAR HEROES TOUR FOR EARTHQUAKE FUNDS
Two of New Zealands finest and most acclaimed guitarists, Billy TK Snr and his son, Billy TK Jnr, are touring the country to raise funds for the Salvation Armys Christchurch Earthquake Family Appeal. Each playing with their own bands, they will be joined by the Flaming Mudcats, harmonica virtuoso Ramblin Rick Stringer and special guest blues guitarist Tony Painting from the U.K.
The national tour kicks off on in Edgecumbe (Thursday 11 August) and Whakatane (13th) before hitting Aucklands Sale Street for a day-evening show (Sunday 14 August). Over 20 performances will follow.
Organised by Billy TK Jnr, he says, I did a similar fund-raiser in Queenstown in April and raised $6000 and I realised that small shows could make a valid contribution to such a worthy cause. So I went out and found some sponsors and approached the Salvation Army to facilitate the profits.
Fifty percent of profits will be directed straight into the fund. As a further incentive, all tickets will go into a draw for a trip for two to the 2012 Fiji Jazz & Blues Festival, an event Billy organises.
Billys father, the legendary guitarist whose credentials include Human Instinct and Powerhouse, says, I always love it when I can gig with my sons (another son, Mara, is lead singer with the Wellington-based Electric Wire Hussle). Something special seems to happen, must be the whanau energy. Junior does the Texas blues thing and definitely keeps me on my toes.
The Sale Street event day starts with a special VIP wine-tasting luncheon between 12.00pm - 2.00pm at Dallows Restaurant (limited tickets available) and the general admission programme kicks off at 3pm, finishing around 8.30pm.
Tickets are $25, available from www.eventfinder.co.nz
